about
This song was born in the aftermath of the 2016 election. Woke up that day & realized that pop music can carry a message of hope & inspire change. It’s not always about the standard subjects - relationships, the club, freaking out - but goes way deeper. It creates joy, from joy springs hope: & when we are faced with challenges, these are our strongest allies. Burn It Down is not about destruction - it's a call to rebuild ourselves, rebuild our families, & rebuild our nation. Sometimes it just takes a song to bring us all together: we hope the layers, message & melody of this tune light your spark!
lyrics
Burn It Down
V1:
Our regret sets in, we look around at what we’ve done:
Sacrificed the Queen of Hearts to the King of Destruction,
& we all scream!
Burn it down, burn it down, burn it down, burn it down
How we gonna start a fire?
Burn it down, burn it down, burn it down, burn it down
How we gonna climb up higher?
When the fuel is gone, and the ladder's lost its rungs,
Burn it down, burn it down, burn it down, burn it down
How we gonna start a fire?
When the truth sets in, & we see what we’ve become
we drop down to our knees, & pray for redemption,
& we all scream!
When the smoke has cleared & we rise from the ashes
& we rise from the ashes
& we rise from the ashes
& we rise
& we rise
& we rise from the ashes
Burn it down, burn it down, burn it down, burn it down
How we gonna start a fire?
Burn it down, burn it down, burn it down, burn it down
How we gonna climb up higher?
When the fuel is gone, and the ladder's lost its rungs,
Burn it down, burn it down, burn it down, burn it down
How we gonna start a fire?
(Have we turned our back on God?
Higher power’s in the green -
It's gotten even deeper,
Narcissism over greed
They shoot for the kill,
We destroy and rebuild,
But this could be a gift
If we don’t drive it off the cliff
The pathway out of hell
Staying calm in overwhelm,
Enough with the pulls -
Now we see through all the smoke
Nothing can be taken
That we don’t give willingly,
It ain’t over 'til it’s over -
There’s no end to you and me!)
Burn it down, burn it down, burn it down, burn it down
How we gonna start a fire?
Burn it down, burn it down, burn it down, burn it down
How we gonna climb up higher?
Burn it down, burn it down, burn it down, burn it down
How we gonna start a fire?
Burn it down, burn it down, burn it down, burn it down
How we gonna climb up higher?
When the fuel is gone, and the ladder's lost its rungs?
Burn it down, burn it down, burn it down, burn it down
How we gonna start a fire?
